How to Know if Its Love or Just Lust?-2.jpg

Even at an old age, many individuals still confuse love with lust. Teenagers are still more prone since they are overwhelmed by hormones and not experienced with romance. Some adults grow older still seeking lust with the assumption it is love. As we grow older, we are expected to mature through the romantic choices we make. The first step to romantic maturity is knowing the difference between love and lust.

Scientific explanation

Science has found a way to explain what the body undergoes when one is in love or in lust. When it comes to love, the hormones serotonin and dopamine increase in level, instigating elating and hungry-like feelings. These hormones create what we identify as attraction.

As one gets to know a person better and wants more commitment, the body generates oxytocin, which is also known as the "hormone of love." Lust, on the other hand, comes during the process of falling in love. Lust is defined as one's sex drive, identified with an increase of testosterone in men and women. More testosterone creates focused attention on someone and sexual arousal.

The fine line

Lust is not love since it only focuses on physical attraction. A person can lust after another but have no emotional attachment to them. Love is not limited to romantic relationships. One can love his or her best friend and a family member. A romantic sense of love involves physical attraction and emotional commitment.

To properly identify whether or not you are in love with a person, imagine your relationship years from now. Will you still be happy with them without the physical act of love? If you are able to look beyond what you see, then it is love.
